India has seen frequent occurrence of sub-national movements, which has resulted in violent struggles to assert control over parts of the existing state territory in the name of a separate state. The Gorkhaland movement is one such agitation which is more than a century old, characterized by undercurrent of violence despite being professedly non-violent. This book would analyze the movement with special emphasis on Gorkha leaders. Whether the tactics employed or styles adopted by them are analogous to hard-core leadership theory. Thus, the present study would be an addition to the theoretical literature on leadership, which would be substantiated by an analysis of an ethnic movement. It is replete with information collected through direct interaction with the leaders and people. This book is a unique one of its kind and hopefully a great helpt to future academicians and students who would be researching on ethnic movements. It is based on my PhD thesis titled "Gorkhaland Movement: A study in the changing patterns of Leadership".
